PML-N and MQM-P reach consensus on 'basic points': Marriyum


The PML-N spokesperson says both parties are committed to working together in the interest of the country.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have reached a consensus on basic points for political cooperation in the best “interest of the nation and the country” .

PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday said an agreement in principle has been reached between PML-N supremo Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the MQM leadership.

“They promised to work together in the interest of the country and the nation,” Marriyum said.

On the invitation of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, the MQM-P delegation led by coordinator Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui visited Nawaz's residence in Jati Umra, Lahore.

Nawaz led the PML-N delegation that included PML-N leaders Shehbaz, Maryam Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Rana Mashhood.

Whereas the MQM-P delegation included Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Dr Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal, the PML-N spokesperson said while sharing a video of the meeting on her X account.

The consultation between the leaders of both parties lasted approximately one hour. They discussed the emerging political situation in detail and exchanged suggestions.

Marriyum said the political leaders also confided in each other about the overall political situation and contacts made so far.

Earlier, upon arrival in Raiwand, Nawaz and Shehbaz with their party leaders welcomed the MQM-P delegation.

On the other hand, Shehbaz Sharif told his party leaders that former President Asif Zardari demanded the prime minister's post for Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and top ministerial portfolios, The News reported. citing sources.

In a major development, the PPP agreed to form a coalition government with the PML-N on the condition that Bilawal be appointed prime minister.

Shehbaz told party leaders that Zardari offered, in return, that the PPP would support the PML-N to form its government in Punjab.

News According to PML-N sources, former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met former President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal on Friday night and discussed the future coalition. Party sources said on Saturday that PML-N leaders had discussed different options to form the future government both at the Center and Punjab.
