KARACHI: Residents of the metropolis, who have been sweltering due to high temperatures for the past few days, might finally get some respite from the adverse weather conditions as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms in the city's suburbs today.
According to the Met Office, the city is likely to experience hot and humid weather over the next 24 hours with maximum temperatures remaining between 37°C and 39°C.
The forecast for torrential rains comes after weather expert Jawad Memon said yesterday that thunderclouds could develop in the northern, northeastern and northwestern districts of Karachi from today until July 18.
“Clouds are likely to form after afternoon due to moist winds blowing from the Arabian Sea,” the weather analyst said.
It also predicted light to moderate rainfall for Gadap, Superhighway, Malir, Surjani and Gulshan-e-Maymar areas till Thursday.
In addition, the sea breeze has stopped in the metropolis which is experiencing light northwesterly winds, the PMD said.
With humidity currently at 79%, the lowest temperature recorded in the city was 32°C.
In addition, PMD data show that the average night-time temperature in the city was recorded at 27.9°C, which is 4.1°C above the normal average.
Last night was the second hottest of the year, after July 1, with a temperature recorded at 32°C.
