Plane crash in Brazil kills seven people

At least seven people were killed after a small single-engine plane crashed in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on Sunday, officials said as authorities rushed to the scene.

The plane was flying from Campinas, in the neighboring state of Sao Paulo, and broke up in the air and crashed around 10:30 a.m. in the mining town of Itapeva, according to the outlet. AFP report, citing firefighters.

Firefighters “found seven dead victims [who were] on board the plane,” the department said in an updated statement before earlier announcing that three bodies had been found.

The governor of the Amazon state, Wilson Lima, wrote in his social media post that twelve passengers and two crew members died in the accident that occurred in the northern city of Barcelos, a tourist destination.

The plane was an 18-passenger EMB-110, a twin-engine turboprop manufactured by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, news site G1 reported.

He was traveling from the state capital, Manaus, to Barcelos, on an approximately 90-minute flight.

Located on the Río Negro, a tributary of the Amazon, it borders several national parks and other protected areas.

The UOL news site said at the time that the passengers were Brazilians traveling to the region for sport fishing, citing state security secretary Vinicius Almeida.

Earlier that same year, an aviation incident took place in the dense forests of the Amazon in which at least three people died, including the mother of the surviving children, who struggled to survive in the forest for more than a month.

The plane, a Cessna 206, was carrying seven people on a route between Araracuara, in the province of Amazonas, and San José del Guaviare, a city in the province of Guaviare, when it issued a May alert for engine failure in the early hours of May 1. .
