The caretaker government reduces the price of petrol by Rs 8 per liter and the price of diesel remains at Rs 276.21 per litre.
ISLAMABAD: In a sigh of relief, the caretaker government on Monday reduced the price of petrol for the next fortnight by Rs 8 per liter to Rs 259.34 per litre.
The Finance Division notified the new prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight starting January 16 (Tuesday), as per the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
However, the diesel rate remained at Rs 276.21 per litre.

There was a reduction in kerosene and light diesel rates of Rs 1.97 and Rs 0.92 per liter in the new revision.
It emerged on Sunday that petrol price would drop by over Rs 5, while high speed diesel (HSD) may not see any change in the upcoming fuel price revision. News reported citing sources.
However, no change in HSD price was expected following the decline in POL prices. [petrol, oil and lubricants] in the international market recorded in the last fortnight and the increase in the value of the rupee against the US dollar, a senior government official said News.
In the last fortnight, the government had maintained petrol and diesel prices at Rs 267.34 and Rs 276.21 per litre, respectively.
The price of kerosene had fallen to Rs 188.83 after a reduction of Rs 2.19 per litre, while light diesel will be sold at Rs 165.75 as the government has increased the price of the product by Rs 1.11. rupees.
