Pakistani man charged in connection with foiled assassination attempt that could target Trump

A Pakistani man with alleged ties to Iran has been charged in the United States in connection with a foiled plot to assassinate a U.S. politician or government official, the Justice Department said Tuesday.

FBI investigators believed former President Donald Trump and other current and former U.S. government officials were the intended targets of the plot. CNN reported, citing a US official.

Asif Merchant, 46, faces a murder-for-hire charge in federal court in New York.
