The photography director Kim Ji-Yong admits that a “happy accident” provided one of the most attractive images of season 2 of “squid game”: a superior photo in which the contestants stop in a Tiov. eliminated. “We planned the shot and the scene before the scene from the eye level, but when we went to put the camera there, that was the first time we saw it,” he says. The high perspective was framed more than 100 meters above the contestants, with Kim wanting the image “to look flat” and “not so realistic.” The result is a surreal portrait that mimics the shape of an eyeball, a metaphorical reminder of the control room that observes the contestants in each movement. During the game, an immersive camera, often laptop, makes the audience feel like a participant. In addition to mystique there is a pictorial palette of primary colors. “Throughout the season, I wanted to place red and blue lights, the colors from the X and O, in the bedroom,” says Kim. “When they play the uncle, at the time they choose who to go, the light changes to red and blue. Symbolizes the choice.”
