If Karachi is given its financial rights, rulers will not have to travel the world with a begging bowl, says Naeem.
- MQM-P sold Karachi mandate to feudal lords: JI leader.
- Naeem says Karachi can make Pakistan a developed nation.
- “We will conduct a forensic audit of K-Electric,” he adds.
With the general elections getting closer, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman on Sunday threatened to lay siege to the returning officers' (RO) offices if “the results are changed” on February 8.
In a speech at a power show in Karachi's Bagh-e-Jinnah, the Emir of JI Karachi warned: “[JI] It will lay siege to the offices of District Returning Officers (DRO) and Returning Officers (RO) if [election] The results are changed on February 8.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the JI had rejected the results of the Karachi mayoral elections in June last year, accusing the PPP of stealing Karachi's mandate. The JI won 86 union councils and came second to the PPP, which won 93 UCs in the LG polls in the metropolis.
The city mayoral elections were held on June 15 in which PPP's Murtaza Wahab got 173 votes while JI Karachi chief got 160 votes. Before the elections for the coveted seat, the PTI, which had 41 seats, announced its support for the JI candidate.
In a fresh attack on the PPP and the MQM-P, the JI leader said that the Karachi mandate was sold several times. “The MQM-P sold the mandate of Karachi to feudal lords and barons.”
Naeem said the two parties sold Karachi's only power distribution company at a nominal price. “We will conduct a forensic audit of K-Electric and expose the [political] parties involved in it [corrupt practices].”
Linking Karachi's progress with that of the whole of Pakistan, Naeem said that despite all the devastation, the port city still drove the country's economy.
“Karachi can make Pakistan a developed nation.” If the port city were granted its due financial rights, the rulers would not have to travel around the world with a begging bowl.
On the occasion, the JI leader warned that if the problems of the intermediate students are not resolved in two days, they would again hold a protest rally in front of the Chief Minister House.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) last week announced the results of the first year examination (Part I), in which a large number of students failed, raising concerns over their deterioration in the performance.
According to statistics, 80% of the candidates failed in Arts (regular), 72% failed in Arts (private) and 63% failed in Commerce (private) groups.
As of the results released this month, only 36.5% of candidates were successful in the Pre-Medical groups, 34.79% in Pre-Engineering and 38.69% in Computer Science.
Speaking on the occasion, JI Emir Sirajul Haq termed the massive public rally a “referendum” and said that February 8 would be the end of the “rule of thieves”.
“The PPP and the MQM-P have ruined several decades of the nation,” he said, stating that his rule would never happen again.
It holds political parties, which have been in power for the last 76 years, responsible for corruption, skyrocketing inflation, poverty and anarchy in the country.
