ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has signaled that the new program of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is likely to continue for three years.
“A fresh tranche of IMF loan is likely to be received in a few days, however, we would need another programme,” he said while addressing the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) higher committee session, which was attended by civil and military leaders. Thursday.
The prime minister said civil and military leaders, including elected legislators from different political parties, gave a clear message of unity for the development and prosperity of the country by attending today's session.
He added that the previous coalition government, made up of 13 political parties, decided to prioritize the country over its politics.
“There are great challenges for the national economy. The SIFC is an important platform that was created primarily to remove obstacles to foreign investments and held several meetings over the past eight months.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed on introducing reforms under the IMF programme, as the country needs macroeconomic stability. “We have revenue of Rp9 trillion, which should be Rp13-14 trillion.”
