New 'Megalopolis' trailer after fake dating scandal

“Megalopolis” has received a new trailer after an earlier version was pulled from the market due to a major misstep.

Last month, Lionsgate released the first official trailer for the Francis Ford Coppola-directed sci-fi epic. But within hours of its release, the production company pulled the video after it was found to include fake quotes from real film critics. The company issued an apology for the error.

“Lionsgate is immediately removing our trailer,” its statement the same day read. “We sincerely apologize to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our review process. We made a mistake. We are sorry.”

The production company also cut ties with Eddie Egan, the marketing consultant behind the recalled trailer. Variety According to sources who spoke to the media, the quotes were not intentionally fabricated and that there was an error in the process of investigating and verifying the facts.

It is unclear how the fake quotes were created. Some social media users, speculating that AI was involved, began messaging ChatGPT seeking similar results. The New York Times reported.

Lionsgate has not commented on whether ChatGPT or other AI tools were used for the trailer.

The new one trailerThe video, which premiered Thursday, contains much of the footage from the original. In addition, Laurence Fishburne, who stars in the film, praises its director: “A filmmaker has always been ahead of his time. Now, from visionary writer-director Francis Ford Coppola comes an event that no one can prepare you for.”

In addition to Fishburne, the film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman and Grace VanderWaal.

“Megalopolis”, nicknamed a “Roman epic fable set in an imagined modern America” premiered at Cannes in May and hits theaters on September 27.
