MURREE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said he was the kind of person who does not harbor malice, enmity or revenge against others.

Without mentioning Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's name, Nawaz said he always behaved like an angry man.

“He once said in a public rally: 'Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, I will drag you here,'” he said, criticizing the PTI founder for his disrespectful comments against the then sitting prime minister.

The former prime minister said this while addressing a meeting of PML-N parliamentarians in Murree today.

On the contrary, he said he had a working relationship with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and that his party also signed the Democracy Charter with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The PML-N president said that during Khan's tenure, they threatened to take away the air conditioning in his prison cell. However, he said that he did not believe in political revenge.

In fact, the three-time prime minister said he didn't even think about it as Khan is now serving his jail sentence.

It may be noted that the government has time and again offered an olive branch to Khan, but the offer was spurned by the other party, which wanted to hold talks only with the “real stakeholders”.

However, sources recently said Geographic news that Khan has decided to “step back” from his rigid stance, ordering his party leaders to establish contacts both inside and outside Parliament to ease the current political tension.

According to sources, the party leadership would hold talks with various political parties outside Parliament, while its legislators would also improve their relations with parties in the ruling coalition government.

The PTI founder's decision came after his interaction with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa when he appeared for a hearing before the Supreme Court on June 6.

During the hearing regarding amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law, CJP Isa suggested that Khan come to Parliament to help resolve Pakistan's problems “as the country needs to move forward”.

Inflation falls and the stock market soars

On the other hand, Nawaz expressed satisfaction over the role of the federal and Punjab governments in reducing prices of essential commodities.

He especially appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in this regard. He was confident that Pakistan would emerge from the crisis soon.

The PML-N president said policies must be formulated to reduce electricity and gas prices. “Maryam Nawaz played a key role in reducing inflation by not allowing the price of wheat to rise,” he said.

He said headline inflation was falling and the stock market was soaring “unprecedented.”
