Natalie Portman shared how the success of 'Barbie' gave her hope for women in the industry
Natalie Portman has decided to join a big movement and credits Barbie for contributing to it.
Joining A-list celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria, the 42-year-old actress signed the famous letter to New York Times demanding an end to sexual misconduct against women.
Natalie believes that despite the #MeToo movement being underway for seven years, not much has changed regarding the “physical safety” of women in the workplace.
She said Maria Clara Australia: “I wish I could say it was simply [about] the danger to women and the ability of women to be in the workplace without having to worry about their physical safety.”
“Unfortunately that is not the case, but at least the conversation has started and the awareness has started in a way that has hopefully improved conditions. But it is far from over; It is still an ongoing fight,” she added.
However, the Oscar-winning actress is full of hope for women after the success of Greta Gerwig's multimillion-dollar production.
“There has been progress, particularly [with] people talking about it. She was very excited by Barbie's extraordinary success. “I think this really opens the door for a lot of people because, unfortunately, the proof is always in financial success,” Natalie said.
And he continued: “The movie 'Barbie' showed that [a female director and cast] can be very, very successful. I think that will help a lot more people make their films.”
