'My Lady Jane' fans take to the internet to save the cancelled series

“The Dudleys never say die” — and neither do “My Lady Jane” fans.

Fans of the Prime Video series have joined together in an online campaign to call for the historical comedy-drama to be saved from cancellation.

Prime Video announced on Aug. 16 that it would not renew “My Lady Jane” for a second season after the show failed to attract a wide audience or crack Nielsen’s top 10 streaming originals rankings, according to Deadline.

Representatives for Amazon Studios did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment Friday.

Following the announcement, fans of the show expressed their disappointment on social media.

“I am so upset about this. Jane and Guildford deserved their second season. The cast deserved their second season. We had a TV show that had everything: comedy, romance, period drama, a talented cast. And it has its audience, they just don’t want to renew quality stuff… #SaveMyLadyJane #MyLadyJane,” wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

“I say this with a broken heart but #myladyjane you have been one of the best hyperfixations I’ve ever had and it’s so fucking irritating and horrendous that those morons at Prime didn’t understand you like we did. #SaveMyLadyJane,” said another fan.

“I will never forgive them for taking them from me. I was so excited for the first time in a long time #savemyladyjane,” wrote one fan.

“Thank you to everyone who has watched My Lady Jane since it aired seven weeks ago,” creator and showrunner Gemma Burgess said on Instagram. “I’m sorry I can’t give you more information.”

When fans saw that Prime Video had yet to announce a renewal for the show’s second season, they took action and launched an online campaign to “Save My Lady Jane.” Lauren Mullaney started a petition on Change.org on July 15 demanding that the show return for a second season. Since the cancellation, the petition has reached over 20,000 signatures and continues to grow.

The Times was unable to reach Mullaney for comment on Friday.

The petition also includes a Linktree link that encourages fans to rate and review the series on IMDb, Prime Video, and Rotten Tomatoes, follow the Save My Lady Jane group on X and Facebook, and send Prime Video direct messages on Instagram. It also provides email templates for contacting Albert Cheng, COO of Amazon Studios, and a general Prime Video complaints account.

Based on the book of the same name by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows, “My Lady Jane” is a reinterpretation of the true story of Jane Grey, known as England’s “Nine Days Queen,” who briefly ruled in the 16th century before being overthrown by her cousin, “Bloody” Mary Tudor, just nine days later. The series takes creative liberties and reworks Jane’s story into a hypothetical scenario in which Jane, played by Emily Bader, and her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley, played by Edward Bluemel, survive their historical fates.

Fans weren't the only ones hoping for a second season. In an interview conducted before the announcement but published Tuesday, Bader explained to People what he wanted to see happen in Jane's story going forward.

“I think for the first time in her life she is free, but at the same time she is not free at all, because she has left her family and her sisters in the clutches of someone who is furious with her,” Bader said, referring to the vengeful Queen Mary, played by Kate O’Flynn. “I think Jane would make a great queen. It’s always the people who don’t like it that are actually right for the job.”
