Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton are distant cousins. Well, of course.

This makes a lot of sense.

Miley Cyrus's fiery godmother, Dolly Parton, is her seventh cousin in line.

The country music legend learned the news during an interview with “Access Hollywood” about the cookbook she created with her sister, “Good Lookin' Cookin': A Year of Meals.”

Which sister? Not Willadeene, Stella or Cassie, but one of the twins – not Freida, but Rachel. In addition to her five sisters, Parton also has six brothers. The family tree is so large that it rivals that of General Sherman.

“Is that true? It’s unbelievable!” Parton said when presented with Ancestry.com’s findings about her connection to Cyrus.

Cyrus and Parton's mutual ancestor, John Brickey, lived in Blunt County, Tennessee, not far from where Dollywood stands today, Access Hollywood revealed.

Parton said she wasn't surprised, because Cyrus had always felt like family to her (Cyrus and many others).

“I'm sure she'll love it,” Parton said.

Cyrus has often praised her godmother. In an interview with W magazine in June, she told her, “Dolly has been like a mother to me.” She noted that Parton sent her a fax two days ago from Mother. (Why a fax? Because she’s 78.)

Cyrus, who does not have a fax machine handy, said she has to pick up faxes at her lawyer's office.

Dolly's message was: “How much do I love you? As much as my heart can hold and as far as my arms can reach.”

This left Cyrus shaken, as it would be for anyone lucky enough to have a godmother with a heart as big as her hair.
