British actor Micheal Ward, known by the Netflix series “Top Boy” and, more recently, the Ari Aster “Eddington” movie, faces positions of allegedly rapeing and sexually assaulting a woman in the United Kingdom in 2023.
The London Metropolitan Police announced in a Friday statement that prosecutors had accused the winner of the Bafta Ward, 28, with two positions of rape and three positions of sexual assault after an investigation into an alleged incident of January 2023. The statement did not provide details about the incident, including the location and identity of the Ward accuser.
“Our specialized officers continue to support the woman who has presented: we know that investigations of this nature can have a significant impact on those who make reports,” Det. SUTIT. Scott Ware said in the statement.
Ward's representatives did not immediately respond to the request for comments of the Times on Friday. The actor will appear at the Thame Magistrates Court in London on August 28.
Ward, who was born in Jamaica, broke into acting less than a decade ago, appearing in the British dramatic series “Top Boy” and the 2019 film of the rapper “Blue Story”. He won the Rising Star Award from Bafta in 2020. That same year he appeared in “The Old Guard” against Charlize Theron and in the miniseries “Small Ax” by Steve McQueen.
His cinematographic credits also include “Empire of Light” by Sam Mendes, “The Book of Clarence”, “Bob Marley: One Love” and “The Beautiful Game”. A young police officer in “Eddington”, the last film of the filmmaker “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” Aster.
