Michael Strahan is a grandfather: “I don't feel old enough”

Good morning, Grandpa Strahan! “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan welcomed his first grandchild.

The former NFL star announced Sunday that his daughter Tanita had given birth to their first child, a boy named Onyx. Then, in an appearance on Monday’s episode of “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” Strahan told the host that he met the little one in Los Angeles for the first time.

“I went after finishing my job at Fox [NFL Sunday] “Yesterday I was holding him and I was like, ‘I’m going to spoil you so much and I’m going to give you back to your parents,’” she told Fallon. “But it’s the most incredible feeling because I don’t feel old enough and everyone’s like, ‘What is he going to name you? ’ I don’t know. I almost want to do a poll.”

Apparently “Grandpa” wasn’t enough, and the former defensive end offered “Dad” and “Gap-pa” as options.

On Tuesday morning's “GMA,” Strahan's fellow anchors George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts offered heartfelt congratulations.

“It’s amazing. My daughter Tanita had a baby, Onyx, on Sunday morning, at 2:30 a.m., and I’m so excited. I’m so happy and, yes, it’s a great addition to the family,” Strahan said Tuesday.

Tanita, an illustrator who lives in Los Angeles, is the oldest of Strahan’s four children and has lived in Germany and Texas with Strahan’s ex-wife, Wanda Hutchins, according to People. Tanita welcomed the baby with her boyfriend, Calenta, Strahan said. The former “Live With Kelly and Michael” host is also father to son Michael Strahan Jr., 29, and twin daughters Sophia and Isabella, 19, whom he shares with his second wife, Jean Muggli. (The couple divorced in 2006.) Isabella made headlines earlier this year during her battle with a rare brain cancer.

Strahan, who is making the rounds to promote his new Prime Video docuseries “Evolution of the Black Quarterback,” also told Fallon that Isabella is “great.”

“She is cancer free. Yes, it was a tough year, but we got through it. She is cancer free. She is back at university,” he said.
