Meghan Markle wants to become a 'political advocate' in the US amid the elections

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have begun encouraging people to register to vote in the upcoming US presidential election.

However, one royal commentator has criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for getting involved in the presidential election.

The 2024 United States presidential election will be held on November 5, 2024, with Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump vying to lead the country.

On National Voter Registration Day, Harry and Meghan issued a statement through the Archewell Foundation, which read: “Voting is not just a right; it is a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At the Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, regardless of one’s political party, is critical to a more just and equitable world.”

“By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to spread the message that every voice matters. Together, let’s ensure that every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future,” he added.

Commenting on the Sussexes' decision, royal commentator Rupert Bell said: Talk television: “They are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and, last time I checked, there are no royal titles in the United States.”

She added: “Meghan probably wants to see herself as a political advocate, but as the Duchess of Sussex she cannot expect to have status in the American political system – that's not the way they operate.”
