Meghan Markle seemed taken aback by Brooke Shields' comment at the South by Southwest Festival
Meghan Markle was left baffled when Brooke Shields recalled playing a prostitute's daughter in a 1978 film. Pretty Baby.
Meghan joined Brooke as a speaker at the South by Southwest Festival on International Women's Day. At the event, the Duchess of Sussex gave a powerful speech about women's empowerment.
Meghan shared her experience with cyberbullying and reflected on the need to generate change in that area. However, after sharing her experience starring in a sexist TV commercial at age 11, Brooke joked: “When she was 11, she played a prostitute.”
Taken aback, the Duchess of Sussex muttered something, followed by: “A little different.” The Suits star had a big smile on her face but she quickly composed herself to continue the discussion.
Meanwhile, Meghan said she couldn't “make sense” of cyberbullying, arguing: “If you're reading something terrible, terrible about a woman, why are you sharing it with your friends? Why do you choose to post that on the What If? Was it your friend, your mother, your daughter?
She said: “There are many women at the highest executive level who are great advocates for women, great philanthropists, and they are working in these spaces.”
