Shall we play an Olympic match?
Lady Gaga, the Grammy-winning diva of “LoveGame” and “Born This Way,” will reportedly give Paris the Mother Monster treatment as she helps open the 2024 Olympics this week. The pop icon and Oscar winner for “A Star Is Born” will take the stage during the Olympics’ opening ceremony on Friday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Wednesday.
Lady Gaga's representatives did not immediately respond to The Times' request for confirmation Thursday.
News that the “Bad Romance” singer has stepped into the spotlight at the Olympics came amid reports that she had landed in Paris earlier this week. Lady Gaga was spotted outside a hotel in Paris, French outlet Le Parisien reported Wednesday. And she’s not the only artist fueling speculation about her performance at the opening ceremony.
“My Heart Will Go On” singer Celine Dion will reportedly take the Olympic stage in her first live performance since her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome halted her career at the end of 2022. Variety reported that Dion also arrived in Paris this week.
Although Dion's representatives have remained tight-lipped about her reported Olympic performance, the “Power of Love” singer confirmed Wednesday that she was sightseeing in the City of Love.
“Every time I return to Paris, I am reminded that there is still so much beauty and joy to experience in the world,” Dion wrote on Instagram alongside photos of her recent visit to the Louvre. “I love Paris and I am so happy to be back!”
With Lady Gaga and Dion arriving in Paris just days before the start of the Olympics, speculation quickly arose about a possible duet between the singers. The singers will reportedly perform Edith Piaf’s classic “La Vie en Rose” during the ceremony, TMZ reported, citing French journalist Thierry Moreau.
Regardless of whether Lady Gaga and Dion perform at the opening ceremony, the Paris Olympics are shaping up to be a star-studded event. Snoop Dogg, Salma Hayek and Halle Berry are among the celebrities who have served as torchbearers at this edition of the global sporting spectacle.
The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics begins at 10:30 a.m. PDT on Friday and will be streamed live on NBC and Peacock. The Games end on Aug. 11.
