King Charles has issued a powerful statement as he celebrates a major milestone in the Welsh Parliament.
According to the palace, King Charles was celebrating 25 years of Senedd Cymru, the seat of the Welsh Parliament.
The King and Queen met with the First Minister of Wales, Vaughan Gething. The event included poetry readings and choral performances. They also met with Senedd staff, community partners and representatives of the Welsh Youth Parliament.
In his speech marking the Senedd’s 25th anniversary, King Charles said: “The Queen and I are delighted to join you today to mark this significant milestone in our history – the 25th anniversary of the devolution of Wales.
“It is a milestone in a journey I have been privileged to share with you throughout my life, in times of great change, profound pain and enormous achievement. Through it all, my respect and affection for the people of this ancient land have deepened with each passing year.”
He added that over the past twenty-five years, the Senedd has become more than just a symbol. It has become essential to the life of Wales. “As I look back on the last quarter of a century in the long journey of our history, I offer you my heartiest congratulations – llongyfarchiadau mawr – for all that you have achieved.”
