Kate Middleton feared being overshadowed by Diana before inheriting her title

Kate Middleton considered turning down the title Princess of Wales for fear of comparisons to the late Princess Diana, a new book reveals.

According to royal author Robert Jobson, Kate was stressed before inheriting the title because she knew it would come with a lot of scrutiny.

It is pertinent to mention here that the now Queen Camilla had also rejected the use of Diana’s title to avoid public scrutiny and Kate wanted to follow in her footsteps.

“By marrying Prince Charles's eldest son, Catherine was aware that she would one day have to follow in her late mother-in-law's footsteps, but the prospect of becoming Princess of Wales seemed unappealing to her,” the author revealed.

He added in his book: Catherine, Princess of Wales, “I knew she would inevitably be compared to Diana, whose untimely death had sparked a tsunami of anger and grief. And I was right.”

“The similarities and differences between the two women were dissected to infinity, and even discussed within the royal household,” he added.

However, she eventually decided to use the title, with the author stating that “enough time had passed for the title to be more acceptable and Catherine had been on the world stage long enough to be appreciated for her own qualities.”
