Kate Beckinsale explains her mysterious six-week hospital stay

In her latest criticism of body critics online, Kate Beckinsale has shed more light on the health issues that landed her in the hospital earlier this year.

The “Underworld” star said in March that she had been hospitalized. At the time, she did not reveal the reason for what turned out to be a six-week stay, but later offered clarification in a pair of Instagram responses.

Beckinsale posted a photo on Tuesday Instagram reel in which she donned a bright pink bikini bottom, matching crop top and black platform boots while disdainfully commenting on how her fans “don't feel like I'm doing age-appropriate things.”

Among the comments on the video was one that said: “Go do some squats @katebeckinsale” because she looked too skinny.

In response, the British actress wrote: “No actually I watched my stepdad die in a pretty shocking way, my mum has stage 4 cancer and I lost a lot of weight from the stress and grief,” adding that she remained in hospital for six weeks because “the pain had burned a hole in my oesophagus.” [sic] which made me vomit blood.” Because of this, he said, eating became “very difficult.”

Beckinsale added that she recently filmed a movie that was “quite triggering” because it involved the subject of the death of a parent.

“So I don’t really care what you think…” she wrote.

The exchange comes after a similar one occurred two months earlier.

In an Instagram from May 24th reelBeckinsale shared some behind-the-scenes images from her upcoming film “Stolen Girl.” Several commenters expressed concern over the actress' apparent weight loss.

“I hate to say this, Kate, but you look a little thin. You always look good.” [sic] “Great balance… But when the cheekbones start to grow, the balance is lost,” wrote one user.

Beckinsale responded that she was enduring “unbearable losses,” including the deaths of her stepfather Roy Battersby and her “soulmate cat of nearly 19 years.” She added in her response that her weight loss was due to an esophageal tear and a “severe flare of my mast cell disease” exacerbated by “stress, shock and pain.”

“What you think about my appearance and how I should look, regardless of my life and family circumstances, is not important,” he wrote. “I don’t care what your taste in women is. I care that you think any of us need to know. I will not bring this up again. Do better.”

Beckinsale returned to the red carpet in May at the King's Trust Global Gala in New York City, where she said: People He had had a “difficult year.”

“That's why it's good to come and see friends and get some perspective. I think we've all had a bit of a difficult year,” he said.
