- Nasrullah Gadani suffered serious gunshot wounds on Tuesday.
- Minister promises to arrest journalist killers within a week.
- PPP Chairman Bilawal expresses grief over the death.
Journalist Nasrullah Gadani, who succumbed to gunshot wounds early Friday, was buried in Ghotki.
The journalist, associated with a Sindhi newspaper, had suffered serious injuries when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him near Korai Goth, 12 kilometers from Mirpur Mathelo, on Tuesday.
Gadani was, at the time of the unfortunate incident, riding his motorcycle. Following the attack, the police took him to Mirpur Mathelo Civil Hospital, where he received emergency medical care and was then sent to Rahim Yar Khan for surgery.
He was later flown to Karachi by air ambulance for better treatment, and the Sindh government announced that it would bear all his medical costs.
However, even transferring him to a better hospital could not bear fruit as he succumbed to his injuries about three days later and breathed his last on Friday morning.
Protesting the death of their colleague, journalists boycotted the Sindh Assembly debates and demanded the government ensure that Gadani's killers are brought to justice.
This led the provincial ministers to hold talks with the journalists' representatives. Interior Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar said three people have been arrested and the killers would be arrested within a week.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed grief and sadness over the death of Gadani, hoping that the culprits involved in the attack would soon be brought to justice.
In a statement, Bilawal said that Nasrullah Gadani Shaheed's services and sacrifices for the field of journalism will never be forgotten.
He also directed the Sindh Home Department and Information Department to take measures for the protection and welfare of journalists in Sindh.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and other officials also expressed grief over Gadani's demise.
