Jenna Ortega reveals the 'corrupt' side of social media

Social media can be an unsettling experience for some, as Jenna Ortega recalled when she was on a social platform that forced her to delete her account.

During an interview with The New York Times, he Wednesday The star said she created a Twitter profile at age 14 but soon had to leave the platform due to a flood of explicit images in her inbox.

“Did I like being 14 and creating a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty content edited about me as a kid?” the actress says as she discusses the risks of the rise of artificial intelligence in the age of social media. “No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong.”

“One of the first—actually the first— [direct message] “The only thing I opened when I was 12 was an unsolicited photo of a man's genitals, and that was just the beginning of what was to come,” she said.

Amid Wednesday's launch, Jenna said she decided to leave the platform after fearing her fame could attract further harassment through sending X-rated images.

“The avalanche that came out after the show came out, these absurd images and photos, and I was so confused that I just deleted them,” the 21-year-old continued.

“It was disgusting and it made me feel bad. It made me feel uncomfortable. Anyway, that’s why I deleted it, because I couldn’t say anything without seeing something like that. Then one day, I woke up and I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t need this anymore.’ So I left it.”
