James Cameron reveals why he hesitated to cast Kate Winslet in 'Titanic'

Kate Winslet was not James Cameron's initial choice for the iconic film Titanic.

According to a recent report published by Variety On June 12, the 1997 film's director, Cameron, first hesitated to cast Winslet because of her stage name 'Corset Kate.'

Before your casting TitanicWinslet was known for her work on Village and Sense and Sensibility.

“It seemed like a weak casting,” said the writer and director of the Best Picture Oscar winner.

“But then wiser ideas prevailed and I could see what everyone was talking about,” Cameron recalled.

The 69-year-old director also noted that on screen Winslet is “very alive. He walks into a room with a lot of confidence and has that spark of life.”

Additionally, Winslet also spoke about her relationship with the Canadian filmmaker during Avatar: The Way of Water with the exit.

“There's a part of me that feels almost sad about that stupid, speculative Titanic Things at that moment overshadowed the real relationship I have with him,” adding: “He knows I'll be up for anything. Any challenges, any direction you can give me? I'll try.”
