Hozier may have been a little confused at his own concert!
During his latest performance, the Irish musician witnessed a couple get engaged while singing the lyrics of a much-misunderstood song. Cherry wine.
For context, the aforementioned song is composed of some pretty dark lyrics, while the proposal took place in Madison, Wisconsin. Hozier paused his performance to acknowledge the moment he heard the crowd scream in excitement.
“Congratulations,” he told the couple, adding, “Congratulations on putting the fear of God in me, well done. I’m so happy for you. Is that the hand, the newly engaged one?” he asked as the newly engaged young woman showed off her ring. “Okay… is this one from all the songs too?” Hozier questioned, regarding the concept behind it. Cherry wine.
Cherry wine, A Hozier song, released on February 12, 2024, often misinterpreted as a love song, is in fact a track dealing with the sensitive subject of domestic abuse.
“The way she tells me I’m hers and she’s mine/Open hand or closed fist would be fine/Blood is rare and sweet like cherry wine,” the chorus lyrics say.
