Who says you can't go home at the box office?
Warner Bros. Discovery changed the name of its HBO Max Transmission Service on Wednesday, formally reversing its decision two years ago to throw the prestigious HBO brand in an attempt to make the service more attractive to a multitude of meat and potatoes.
The gambit to chase Netflix with a service called Max did not work. Warner Bros. Discovery leaders finally recognized the tremendous value in the name of HBO, and timidly brought it back to a bis.
The company announced the change in May.
“The good news is that I have a drawer full of parking for the last time,” said HBO president Casey Bloys, in May, who gives birth to Warner Bros. Discovery Discovery during the company's annual programming presentation to Madison Square Garden's advertisers in New York.
The movement marks the fifth name for the service in 15 years.
The first HBO digital offer, presented in 2010, was called HBO Go. Finally, the company added an HBO Now application. Then, in 2020, when the company launched its comprehensive transmission service with Warner Bros. movies and television programs, executives decided that the name of HBO Max would play with the company's strengths while signing customers with a product and nickname of their best.
That lasted until executive president David Zaslav intervened. The company truncated Max because Zaslav and other executives felt the need to create a certain distance from HBO's signature shows to leave space for the unworthy rate of discovery channels, including HGTV and Food Network.
Now he is back to HBO Max.
The company has said that change was an answer to the desire of the quality of quality about quantity.
“No consumer today says they want more content, but most consumers say they want a better content,” said the company in May.
The change also represents a recognition that Warner Bros. Discovery, a medium -sized media company with a large debt load, could not compete with Netflix, which tries to offer something for everyone.
And although some of the Max brand shows, including “The Pitt”, are acclaimed by critics, was the HBO rate, including “The White Lotus”, which has been the most consistent attraction for subscribers.
HBO built its legacy as a premium cable channel that required an additional rate on the monthly cable bill. Innovative series such as “The Sopranos”, “Game of Thrones” and “Sex and the City” put the channel at the forefront of prestigious programming.
Most of the subscribers currently have Max will not need to download a new application, the company's company said.
The update of an application will eventually change the Blue Max logo to a black HBO Max One.
