Glen Powell talks about adopting Brisket the dog and returning to college


Since his breakout role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” Glen Powell has kept a busy schedule, even working double duty.

Powell adopted his dog Brisket last year while on the set of the tornado thriller “Twisters,” which opens in theaters Friday. He was sitting in a coffee shop in Enid, Oklahoma, he said, when the idea came to him: “I don’t even know how to describe it — I just had the desire to be a father.”

After stumbling upon a photo of Brisket on Instagram, Powell took a weekend off from filming and flew to Los Angeles to pick up the pup.

“I was like, ‘Are you sure you want to get a puppy right now?’” recalled “Twisters” director Lee Isaac Chung. “But he did, and everyone loved that dog.”

Like most first-time parents, Powell said she didn't get much sleep when she brought Brisket back to Oklahoma; the pup, who was still in the crate, cried all night. But during the day, he was an angel.

“Brisket would fight with all the department heads and sit in my chair and sleep,” Powell said. “He became a kind of mascot for the movie.”

“Sets can be lonely places, and it’s interesting to see a dog that showers you with love, how that brings the cast together even more,” Powell continued. “Brisket has been amazing. I consider it the best special feature of ‘Twisters.’”
