George R.R. Martin Talks “Weakened” and “Toxic” Season of “House of the Dragon”

George RR Martin has just expressed his views on the House of the Dragon series.

While discussing the “toxic” changes to the original story that led to a “weakened” plot, he addressed the making and execution of the aforementioned show’s second season, which is inspired by Martin’s 2018 book, Fire and blood.

House of the Dragonwhich has been confirmed to end in season 4, notably features the death of a child character (not present in the book) and has cut the character of Aegon and Helaena Targaryen's youngest son, Maelor, which the author says would affect the future of the show.

“When Ryan Condal (showrunner) first told me what he was planning to do, way back when (2022, maybe), I was opposed to it for all of these reasons. However, I didn’t oppose it for very long or very ardently. The change weakened the sequence, it seemed to me, but only slightly,” Martin wrote on his blog.

He continued: “That made sense to me, so I withdrew my objections and accepted the change. I still love the episode and the Blood and cheese sequence in general. Losing the pacing of “Helaena’s Choice” weakened the scene, but not greatly.”

“Only readers of the book would notice its absence; viewers who had never read Fire and blood “Still, I would find the scenes heartbreaking. After all, Maelor did nothing in the scene. How could he? He was only two years old. However, there is another aspect to the young prince's elimination,” concluded George RR Martin.
