Security forces have killed five terrorists in three separate operations in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations Bureau (ISPR) said on Monday.

A joint intelligence operation was carried out in Mohmand district and three terrorists, including “Kharji alias Qari of Fitna Al Khawarij”, were successfully neutralized, the army’s media wing said in a statement.

Moreover, the hideout of the terrorists was also raided during the operation and a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered. However, Police Constable Abrar Hussain (resident of Swabi district) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, after fighting bravely, embraced the terrorists. shahadat During the intense exchange of gunfire, he said.

In another intelligence-based operation conducted in Dera Ismail Khan district, security forces effectively targeted the location of the terrorists, as a result of which “Kharji Sifatullah Mullah Mansoor of Fitna Al Khawarij was sent to hell,” while three other terrorists were injured, the ISPR statement said.

The military's media wing said Kharji Sifatullah was involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area, including facilitating a suicide bomb attack in Daraban on December 12, 2023, and was highly wanted by law enforcement agencies.

In a third encounter in North Waziristan district, “another Kharji terrorist from Fitna Al Khawarij was sent to hell” by security forces, the statement said.

“Pakistan's security forces work hand in hand with other law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and stability across Pakistan and these sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve,” he added.

Last week, the forces killed a terrorist in another IBO attack carried out in Balochistan's Hoshab district where they engaged in a gunfight with the terrorists, the ISPR said.

In another incident last week, three terrorists were killed when security forces foiled their attempt to infiltrate into Pakistan through the Afghan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)'s Dir district, according to the ISPR.

To tackle the resurgence of terrorism, including cross-border infiltration, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent months, the federal government last month approved the launch of a strategic campaign “Azm-e-Istehkam”, a renewed nationwide anti-terrorist campaign as part of the National Action Plan.

The country, during the second quarter of 2024, witnessed 380 violence-related deaths and 220 injuries among civilians, security personnel and criminals, as a result of up to 240 incidents of terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations, according to an annual security report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).

This includes 236 deaths among civilians and security forces personnel, according to the report.

KP and Balochistan, which share borders with neighbouring Afghanistan, have borne the brunt of terrorist attacks, reporting nearly 92% of all deaths and 87% of attacks (the former suffering 67% and the latter 25% of all deaths in Q2 2024).
