Trump is “safe” after an incident on Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania, where he was rushed off the stage after possible gunshots were heard.
“The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former president is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available,” Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi told X.
The former president was quickly removed from the stage by Secret Service agents after a series of loud explosions that sounded like possible gunshots were heard at the start of a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump was seen with blood on his right ear as he was surrounded by security officers, who quickly removed him from the stage as he sang his first anthem to the crowd.
“The former president is safe,” the Secret Service said after Trump was loaded into a van and driven away.
“This is an active crime scene,” Secret Service officers told reporters, ordering them to leave the area.
“We saw a lot of people fall to the ground, confused faces. I heard the gunshots, they sounded like firecrackers and a small-caliber handgun,” said John Yeykal of Franklin, Pennsylvania, who was attending his first Trump rally.
