Elle King postpones tour after failed Dolly Parton tribute

Elle King appears to be taking a break from her tour following her drunken performance at the Grand Ole Opry last week.

The “Ex's & Oh's” singer postponed five shows, including one that was scheduled for Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday.

“Your tickets will be valid for the new dates. If you are unable to attend the new date, refunds are available at the point of purchase. See you there,” reads a Thursday announcement on the singer’s Instagram story.

Billy Bob's Texas announced Wednesday that the Fort Worth show scheduled for Friday would be rescheduled for Sept. 21, but the venue did not give a reason for the last-minute change.

In addition to the Billy Bob show, affected February concerts include King's appearances in Shipshewana, Indiana; Waukegan, Illinois, and two shows in Harris, Michigan. Those concerts have been rescheduled for March 21, 22, 29 and 30, respectively.

King will return to the stage on March 1 during the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona, according to his official tour website.

King's representatives had no further comment when contacted by The Times on Friday.

The postponements, however, come on the heels of King's performance during Dolly Parton's 78th birthday family tribute in Nashville last Friday. The “Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)” singer took the Ryman Auditorium stage to perform Parton's “Marry Me,” but she slurred her words and admitted to forgetting the lyrics, an affront to many concert-goers and social media users.

“Hello, my name is Elle King. “I’m fucking devastated,” the 34-year-old told the audience after struggling to finish the performance, according to a clip shared on TikTok. Several other clips from the cringe-inducing appearance circulated on social media, showing King improvising lyrics during the inscrutable delivery.

“I don't know the words to this in this damn town,” King said. “Don't tell Dolly, because it's her birthday.”

King, the daughter of comedian Rob Schneider, also cursed repeatedly onstage and joked with the crowd about her performance, telling them, “You're not getting your money back.”

When his appearance went viral, observers compared King's performance to “drunk karaoke” and raised other concerns, leading the Grand Ole Opry to issue an apology to a disappointed online concert attendee.

“[W]“We deeply regret and apologize for the language used during the second Opry performance last night,” the vaunted show tweeted.

Parton hasn't said much about King's performance, although his younger sister Stella did it.

“When you disrespect someone in my family, you disrespect all of us,” Stella Parton. tweeted On Tuesday, in defense of his original comments about King since Monday.

“I choose to speak on my personal platforms because it is my prerogative. I know a lot about the lack of respect in the music industry. However, I no longer stay silent when I see people misbehaving,” she continued. “The bottom line is this: if you're lucky enough to be in front of a paying audience, give it your best shot or get off the stage. I don't believe the weak excuse of being “beaten” to get out. Fans pay our salaries FYI. Sometimes they sacrifice to achieve it.”
