Dubai has recently announced that it is planning to build the emirate's longest public beach in a bid to become a major eco-tourism destination, according to a report by National news saying.

According to the report, the public beach, which will stretch for 6.6 kilometres, will be built in Jebel Ali, a major commercial port in the emirate.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has approved the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project, which aims to increase the size of the emirate's public beaches by 400% under the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040.

The project will allow visitors to observe turtles in their natural habitat.

“Our aim is to create spaces rich in beaches, open areas and recreational green zones,” said Sheikh Hamdan.

“The ultimate goal is to improve the well-being of the city's inhabitants, create a healthy environment for everyone and make Dubai the best place in the world to live.”

The beach, which will be built on an existing wildlife sanctuary, will be a “distinctive recreational destination that places high priority on environmental preservation and the protection of local ecosystems and wildlife.”

What's inside the project?

The large-scale project will include a 5km sandy beach and a 1.6km mangrove beach.

Mattar Al Tayer, Dubai's commissioner general for infrastructure, urban planning and wellbeing, revealed details of the plan.

According to him, the plan includes “a 2-kilometer open swimming beach, a 2.5-kilometer diving sports area, a walkway with observation platforms to blend in with the surrounding environment, and recreational and service areas for bathers of all ages, including children's play areas, sports areas and marine activities.”

The beach will also have parking for 1,000 vehicles, 80 bicycle racks, a cycling track and a 5-kilometre jogging track.

The beach will also feature a floating restaurant as the centerpiece of the development.
