King Charles is said to have offered his estranged son Prince Harry a stay at Buckingham Palace during the Duke's recent visit to the UK in May.
However, Archie and Lilibet's doting father “rejected the offer” and preferred a hotel instead.
He Times A source close to the matter said: “I don't know what else the King could have done. He offered Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace, but it seems even that wasn't enough.”
“It was not at all clear what the Duke's plans were. When the time came, there was no space in the King's diary between treatment and other scheduled events.”
The insiders went on to say: “Harry’s decision to stay in a hotel is even stranger when the Palace would naturally offer all the security one could wish for.”
“It would also have made more sense from the point of view of seeing his father, as it would be easier for the King to see his son if they were close by,” royal sources further explained.
Earlier, Prince Harry's spokesman said of the meeting with King Charles: “In response to numerous enquiries and ongoing speculation as to whether or not The Duke will meet his father whilst in the UK this week, it will regrettably not be possible due to Her Majesty's full schedule.”
