KARACHI: The effects of cyclonic storm are almost over as 'Asna' has moved away from the Karachi coast, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday.

However, the Met Office said light rain or drizzle was expected in Karachi due to the prevailing cloudy sky. Not only the rain system but also the strong and gusty winds had subsided as the morning winds blew from the northeast at a speed of 12 km, it said.

The meteorological department said the cyclonic storm had moved beyond Karachi up to 500 km to the southeast and 350 km from Ormara in the south and southeast, while it had moved 260 km southeast of Gwadar, it added.

The department has given permission to fishermen in Sindh to resume their activities at sea from today and warned fishermen in Balochistan not to venture into deep waters for another day.

“Meanwhile, winds could blow 60-70 kilometres away from Cyclone Asna,” he added.

PMD Director General Mehar Sahibzada Khan said on Monday that the cyclone named Asna has formed off the Karachi-Gwadar coast, which may bring heavy rains after affecting western coastal areas.

Meanwhile, the Met Office said sea breezes are likely to resume in the afternoon or evening in Karachi.

During the next 24 hours, the sky would remain partly cloudy with intermittent light rain or drizzle in the port city, the PMD said in its daily forecast.

The minimum temperature recorded was reported to be 23.5°C and the city could record a maximum temperature of 30-32°C during the day. The meteorological department recorded an air humidity index of 91%.
