CPI inflation stood at 11.1% in July: PBS

  • The overall CPI inflation stood at 12.6% last month.

ISLAMABAD: The headline inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) was recorded at 11.1% year-on-year in July 2024, down from 12.6% in June 2024 and 28.3% in the corresponding month last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The latest data released on Thursday showed that headline CPI inflation rose to 2.1% in July 2024 on a monthly basis, compared with a 0.5% increase in the previous month and a 3.5% increase in July 2023.

According to PBS data, urban CPI inflation rose to 13.2% year-on-year in July 2024, compared with an increase of 14.9% in the previous month and 26.3% in July 2023.

On a monthly basis, it rose to 2.1% in July 2024, compared with a 0.5% increase in the previous month and a 3.6% increase in July 2023.

Meanwhile, rural CPI inflation grew by 8.1% year-on-year in July 2024, compared with an increase of 9.3% in the previous month and 31.3% in July 2023.

On a monthly basis, it rose to 2.2% in July 2024, compared with an increase of 0.3% in the previous month and an increase of 3.3% in July 2023.

In addition, PBS data showed a 15.7% year-on-year increase in Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation during July 2024. Last month, it was 16.6% and 29.3% in July 2023.

On a monthly basis, it increased by 2.0% in July 2024, compared with an increase of 1.3% a month earlier and an increase of 2.8% in July 2023.

The year-on-year wholesale price index (PPI) inflation rose to 10.4% in July 2024, compared with an increase of 10.6% a month earlier and an increase of 23.1% in July 2023.

Meanwhile, the month-on-month difference suggested a 2.3% increase in July 2024 compared to a 0.4% increase in the previous month and a 2.5% increase in the corresponding month last year (July 2023).

Urban core inflation, as measured by non-food and non-energy products, rose to 16.9% year-on-year in July 2024, compared with an increase of 17.0% in the previous month and 24.6% in July 2023.

On a monthly basis, it increased by 1.1% in July 2024, compared with an increase of 0.9% in the previous month and an increase of 1.2% in the corresponding month last year, i.e. July 2023.

Rural core inflation, as measured by non-food and non-energy items, rose to 16.9% year-on-year in July 2024, compared with an increase of 17.0% in the previous month and 24.6% in July 2023.

On a monthly basis, it increased by 1.1% in July 2024, compared with an increase of 0.9% in the previous month and an increase of 1.2% in the corresponding month last year, i.e. July 2023.
