Chappell Roan is seeking therapy to deal with sudden fame.
In his recent interview, Roan revealed that he has been diagnosed with severe depression, according to The Guardian.
Roan, who recently won her first VMA trophy in the Best New Artist category, has been open about her experience with mental health and currently attends therapy sessions twice a week.
“I go to therapy twice a week. Last week I went to see a psychiatrist because I thought I didn't know what was going on,” she told the outlet.
The 26-year-old singer added: “I was diagnosed with severe depression, which I didn't think I had because I'm not actually sad. But I have all the symptoms of someone who is severely depressed.”
Despite not feeling sad, Roan revealed that he had symptoms such as mental confusion, forgetfulness and lack of concentration.
“I think it's because my life has completely changed. Everything I really like to do now has its consequences. If I want to go shopping for second-hand items, I have to hire a security service and prepare for this not to be normal,” Roan explained.
She added: “Going to the park, doing pilates, yoga… How can I do that safely, without being harassed or bullied?”
Previously, in an interview with Face magazine, Roan compared fame to “an abusive ex-husband” and described: “The vibe of it – stalking, talking shit online, [people who] He won't leave you alone and yells at you in public – that's the vibe of an abusive ex-husband.”
