Canada has set a target of 195 runs for the United States after the United States put them through the first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Sunday.
Opener Navneet Dhaliwal and middle-order batsman Nicholas Kirton scored fifties for Canada to set the platform for a competitive total.
Dhaliwal scored 61 runs in 44 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Kirton added 51 runs in 31 balls that included three fours and two maximums.
Shreyas Movva played a fiery unbeaten cameo of 32 runs off 16 balls to provide momentum towards the end of the innings.
Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh and Corey Anderson bagged a wicket each.
Earlier, US captain Monank Patel said at the toss that it is new ground and his team will have more clarity while chasing.
“Playing in the World Cup is an incredible feeling. We have sacrificed a lot in the last five years,” he added.
Meanwhile, Canada's Saad Bin Zafar said the surface is good and he doesn't mind batting first.
“It is a World Cup and we have a full team, so we are confident that we will do well. It is the first time we have played in the tournament and I hope to do so with a victory,” he added.
United States vs. Canada is cricket's oldest rivalry since the first international cricket was between these two teams in 1844 at St George's Cricket Club in New York.
The North American rivals have met seven times in T20I matches, with the United States having the advantage on five occasions and Canada winning twice.
Canada and the United States are in Group A along with India, Pakistan and Ireland.
