ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has challenged the authorities' decision to imprison her at the Bani Gala residence to serve a 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana case.

Last month, Bushra Bibi was jailed at her Islamabad residence after the accountability sentenced the couple to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana case.

The authorities had declared the Bani Gala residence a “sub-jail” to confine the former first lady at the request of the superintendent of Adiala jail.

Bushra and Khan were sentenced to 14 years in prison each when accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir announced the verdict in the case involving the illegal sale of state gifts.

The court also disqualified the former prime minister for 10 years from holding public office, besides fining the couple Rs 1.57 billion (Rs 787 million each).

In today's petition, Bushra Bibi said, like other political workers of the party, that she is ready and willing to serve her sentence in the “ordinary prison facilities of Adiala Jail, Adiala, instead of the sub-jail declared in her home”.

Additionally, the former first lady said she does not feel safe being confined alone in the sub-jail facility due to potential security concerns.

“However, although the petitioner is currently in good health, there has been a movement of unidentified people in her house declared a sub-jail by the Government, thus contributing to her feeling of insecurity,” he stated.

Bushra Bibi said the “special treatment” accorded to her goes against the spirit of equality guaranteed by the Constitution and is therefore discriminatory.

In view of the stated reasons, the petitioner requested the court to quash the notice to declare her sub-jail domicile and transfer her to Adiala jail in the “interest of justice”.
