Biden addresses UN General Assembly session for final time as president

Biden is making his final appearance at the UN General Assembly in New York, after dropping out of the race in July and endorsing his vice president as the Democratic candidate. The 81-year-old is taking no chances.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also attending the inaugural session of the 79th United Nations General Assembly today, marking the start of the annual gathering of world leaders.

Addressing member states, Biden stresses the importance of a ceasefire agreement for Gaza and Lebanon, and calls for support for Ukraine.

“A diplomatic solution is still possible for the conflict between Lebanon and Israel,” Biden says.

He added: “The world has to choose whether to continue supporting Ukraine or to distance itself from this aggression.”

He urged a diplomatic solution as Israel strikes Hezbollah targets, warning against a “full-scale war” in Lebanon.

“A full-scale war is in no one's interest. Although the situation has worsened, a diplomatic solution is still possible,” Biden said in his speech.
