As the rain-producing system enters the country through Balochistan, several parts of Pakistan are likely to receive heavy downpours and windstorms, with authorities warning against travel on inter-provincial highways.

Chaman and its surrounding areas were hit by strong dusty winds on Sunday, influenced by a westerly system. Meanwhile, areas like Qilla Abdullah, Jangle Pir Alizai, Saranan, Pishin and others received wind storm.

As a result, movement along Chaman Road was affected.

The National Highways Authority (NHA) has advised people to avoid “unnecessary travel” on interprovincial highways tonight (Sunday), citing the forecast of heavy rain, hailstorms and snowfall.

The travel advisory stated that N-50 connecting Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to be affected due to snowfall.

The NHA North director general said that emergency camps have been set up on the roads passing through the highlands of Balochistan, while presence of heavy machinery has been ensured to clear the roads at Kozak Top, N-25, Chaman and other areas.

In addition, relief and rescue teams remain on standby at the Khan Mehtarzai camp.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted a westerly wave that would enter the country tonight (February 25), taking over the upper parts of the country on February 26 and 27 in the form of heavy rain and electric storms.
