Ashley Park calls her recovery from septic shock a “miracle”

Ashley Park is grateful for her recovery from a health problem

In a recent cover story for CosmopolitanThe 33-year-old actress revealed that she was hospitalized while on vacation in the Maldives.

Park told the outlet: “When I first went to the ER and ICU, I was in the Maldives with Paul.”

She continued: “Then everything started to go really wrong. I was in different ICUs and then air ambulances for a month. I couldn’t leave because I wasn’t allowed to fly. When I finally could, the distance to Paris was shorter than to Los Angeles.”

“When I woke up in the hospital they told me: 'You're in septic shock,'” she added.

According to the Cleveland Clinic website, “Septic shock is a serious medical condition that can occur when an infection in the body causes extremely low blood pressure and organ failure due to sepsis.”

Additionally, when Park was 15, she was diagnosed with cancer, acute myeloid leukemia.

She said making fun of her health “makes it easier” to cope.

“As an adult, I understand what coping mechanisms are, something I didn’t know as a teenager, although the two serious illnesses I have suffered have been, in some ways, pure chance.”

Park said she has learned her lesson after her battle with septic shock and will continue to be conscious of her health.

“I pushed myself too hard,” she admitted. “I wasn’t listening to my body. Now, I’m thinking about my future and asking myself, ‘Am I putting myself in a position where I can do my best?’ That starts with my health.
