The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has unveiled a plan to play a tri-series with Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as A-team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf and CEO Naseeb Khan were in Colombo to attend the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual board meeting, where they also met with Cricket South Africa, Cricket New Zealand and Cricket West Indies to discuss the possibility of a white-ball series ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mr Mirwais Ashraf and CEO Mr Naseeb Khan attended the ICC Board meeting held this week in Sri Lanka and attended by representatives of other member countries,” the ACB said in a press release.

“During the meeting, the ACB leaders presented the recent achievements, activities and future plans of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. They also held discussions with representatives of Cricket South Africa, Cricket New Zealand and Cricket West Indies on possible bilateral white-ball cricket ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“Discussions also included A team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, and the possibility of a Youth Tri-Series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, with dates and venues to be confirmed.

“ICC leaders and meeting participants commended the recent achievements of ACB and AfghanAtalan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and highlighted the team’s remarkable performances and significant contribution to the entertainment of fans around the world and the development of cricket in Afghanistan.”

Afghanistan cricket team under the leadership of Rashid Khan recently stunned the cricket world at the 2024 T20 World Cup. They defeated teams like Australia and New Zealand and reached the semi-final, their first ever quarter-final qualification at an ICC event.

Although they lost to South Africa in the semi-final in a one-sided match, Afghanistan proved their prowess by playing aggressive cricket throughout the tournament.
