ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Thursday stayed the arrest warrants of Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, sons of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, in the Al-Azizia, Flagship cases and Avenfield.

The decision was announced by accountability court judge Nasir Javed Rana in a verdict that was reserved today.

The orders have been suspended until March 14, according to the verdict.

The arrest warrants for the brothers were issued seven years ago when the court declared them fugitives.

In today's hearing, both brothers were represented in the case by their lawyer Qazi Misbah, while National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutors Sardar Muzaffar, Usman Masood and Sohail Arif also appeared in court.

The plea seeking suspension of the orders was filed as both brothers plan to return to Pakistan on March 12.

His lawyer Misbah revealed developments during the hearing of the Toshakhana reference filed against Nawaz, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, in which the politicians are accused of having kept several vehicles in violation. of the Toshakhana rules.

Misbah, presenting his arguments, said both brothers were declared fugitives in the case, while life warrants were also issued against them.

He told the court that all other accused were acquitted in these three references. The lawyer added that both Hasan and Hussain want to return to Pakistan this month and ask the court to suspend their life orders.

“There were five defendants in the Avenfield case [reference], three were convicted by the accountability court. The Islamabad High Court acquitted three accused,” he claimed.

NAB prosecutor Arif said the accused should appear in court as per the law. “[They] will have to appear, [as] Without it the arrest warrant cannot be suspended.”

He added that the purpose of the order is to bring the accused to court, insisting that both brothers must be given the opportunity to appear before the accountability court.

Once the arguments of both parties were completed, the accountability court reserved its decision on the petitions.
