A 90-year-old woman trapped under rubble was found alive Monday nearly five days after an earthquake shook the city of Suzu in Japan.

The woman remained trapped under the rubble for almost 125 hours. America today reported.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was trapped in a narrow space between the first and second floors of her home. She has suffered multiple injuries, including injuries to her legs and knees, and she has been admitted to hospital.

According to a member of the emergency rescue team, “This is a very rare case, since it involves the rescue of a person alive long after an earthquake,” which makes it surprising.

In addition, according to local news channels, rescuers also found a woman in her 40s in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest, in the same place.

According to Inaba Mototaka, a doctor at the non-profit organization Peace Winds Japan, a person has a better chance of surviving after 72 hours if they are in warm conditions and have access to water.

The massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Monday and subsequent aftershocks and landslides have so far claimed 126 lives, more than 500 injured and 200 missing.

Rescue operations are facing difficulties due to rain and snow. Officials are concerned that already cracked roads could collapse completely, making it difficult to deliver aid and relief supplies.

More than 500 small and medium earthquakes have occurred since 2020, making Japan one of the most seismically active countries in the world.
