Rawalpindi CPO says ammunition and automatic weapons were also recovered from 'Afghan terrorists'
- CPO Hamdani says the terrorists come from Afghanistan.
- Police launch search operation around Adiala Jail.
- Imran Khan is imprisoned in the same prison.
RAWALPINDI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday claimed to have arrested three terrorists and recovered a map of Adiala jail, a hand grenade and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from their possession.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani said the police recovered automatic weapons and ammunition from the terrorists. Following this, police and other law enforcement agencies launched a search operation around Adiala Jail, where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is also imprisoned.
The CPO said the terrorists came from Afghanistan and further investigations were being carried out on them.
Earlier, on November 7, 2023, the police found a suspicious bag loaded with an explosive device near Adiala Road in Gorakhpur, Rawalpindi, just a kilometer from Adiala Jail before the hearing of the code case.
Law enforcement agencies have already expressed concern over the safety of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and all hearings in the case are being held under tight security inside the prisons.
He was shifted to Adiala from Attock on September 26 amid tight security, a day after the Islamabad High Court's order in this regard.
A convoy of 18 vehicles, including 15 Islamabad police vehicles, two armored vehicles and an ambulance escorted Khan along the highway.
