Delta is the latest airline to increase its checked baggage fee

Delta Airlines just became the latest airline to raise its checked baggage fee, this time by $5 starting Tuesday, according to the company.

In a statement, the airline said the fee for the first and second checked bag will increase by $5 for most domestic and short-haul international routes. Travelers with Delta benefits, such as Delta SkyMiles Medallion members and first class customers, will continue to receive their complimentary baggage allowance, the airline added.

It will now cost travelers $35 for the first checked bag and $45 for the second checked bag. It's Delta's first baggage price increase since 2018, which the company says will help it keep up with the industry's rising costs.

Delta said the increased fare does not apply to tickets purchased before Tuesday.
