DUBAI: Hezbollah accused its arch-enemy Israel of detonating beepers across Lebanon on Tuesday, a sophisticated operation that followed a spate of killings of resistance fighters since the Gaza war erupted on October 7.
Below is a list of some operations, including those carried out in the past year, against Hezbollah and Hamas leaders and commanders that have been attributed to Israel.
Hezbollah
Fuad Shukr
On July 30, an Israeli strike in the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital killed top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr, identified by the Israeli military as the right-hand man of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Shukr has been one of Hezbollah's top military figures since it was established by Iran's Revolutionary Guard more than four decades ago.
The United States imposed sanctions on Shukr in 2015, accusing him of playing a central role in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut that killed 241 American servicemen.
Mohamed Nasser
Mohammed Nasser was killed in an Israeli airstrike on July 3. Israel claimed responsibility for the attack, saying Nasser led a unit tasked with firing from southwestern Lebanon into Israel.
Nasser, a senior Hezbollah commander, was responsible for a section of Hezbollah's operations on the border, according to senior security sources in Lebanon.
Taleb Abdullah
Hezbollah's top field commander, Abdallah, was killed on June 12 in a strike claimed by Israel, which said it had hit a command and control center in southern Lebanon.
Security sources in Lebanon said he was Hezbollah's commander for the central region of the southern border strip and was of equal rank to Nasser.
His killing prompted the group to fire a massive barrage of rockets across the border into Israel.
Hamas
Mohamed Deif
The Israeli military said Deif was killed after warplanes struck the Khan Younis area of Gaza on July 13, following an intelligence assessment. The elusive Deif had survived seven assassination attempts by Israel.
Deif is believed to have been one of the masterminds behind Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel, which sparked the Gaza war. Hamas has not confirmed his death.
Ismail Haniyeh
Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the early hours of July 31 in Iran, the Palestinian resistance group reported.
Haniyeh was killed when a missile struck him directly at a state-run guesthouse where he was staying. Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
Saleh Al-Arouri
An Israeli drone strike in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh killed Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri on January 2, 2024.
Arouri was also the founder of Hamas's military wing, the Qassam Brigades.
