In a shocking incident, a man was brutally tortured by police at Manchester Airport in the UK, it emerged on Wednesday.

In a video that went viral on social media, a police officer can be seen kicking and stomping on the head of a man lying on the ground at the airport.

The video shows a police officer pointing a Taser at the man, who is lying face down, before hitting him twice as other police officers order onlookers to stay back, the BBC reported. The video also shows a woman trying to save the man from torture.

According to media reports, police also tortured another man sitting on a nearby bench.

Responding to the incident, Greater Manchester Police said armed officers had come under attack as they attempted to arrest someone following a fight at the airport on Tuesday. Police said they have launched an investigation into the incident.

In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry said: “We are aware that a widely circulated video of an incident at Manchester Airport shows an event that is truly shocking and rightly of great concern to people.”

“The use of such force in an arrest is an unusual occurrence and we understand that it creates alarm,” Chaudhry added.

“A male officer has been removed from operational duties and we are voluntarily referring our policing response to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”

Police officers were called to the airport after receiving reports of an altercation by members of the public, a police spokesman said.

According to media reports, four people were arrested for attacking emergency workers.
