Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is optimistic that US President Joe Biden will be the Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential election, but says Vice President Kamala Harris is “ready” to be the party's nominee if he drops out.

Warren emphasized in an interview with The weekend, MSNBC that Biden is the Democratic candidate.

“Look, Joe Biden is our candidate and he has a very important decision to make. Joe Biden has been a transformative president, someone who gets up every day to fight for working people,” he said.

Warren also expressed gratitude to the president for leading the federal government for four years.

“I am deeply grateful to Joe Biden for all he has accomplished.”

The current US president has been under scrutiny amid his health crisis and recent debacles, including the incompetent debate against former President Donald Trump in June, where he appeared ill and out of touch.

Biden's growing health risk has raised questions in the Democratic field, especially after it was reported that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Democrats are reportedly pushing Biden to step aside and Vice President Kamala Harris to be nominated for the presidential nomination.

Harris has served nearly four years as Biden's vice president and the president named her as his running mate for his 2024 election campaign. If Biden is re-elected for another term, Harris will resume his role.

But revelations made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during an Instagram Live session have raised questions about whether Democrats want Harris to be named the new nominee or if they want someone else to take over.

Ocasio-Cortez revealed that the Democratic Party wants “the whole group” – Biden and Harris – gone. “They (the Democrats) are interested in eliminating the whole group,” she said.

However, Senator Warren did comment on the matter, saying that the fact that Harris is ready to step forward if Biden steps back gives her a lot of hope, responding to Ocasio-Cortez's claims.

“What gives me a lot of hope right now is that if President Biden decides to step back, we have Vice President Kamala Harris who is ready to step forward, to unite the party, to take on Donald Trump and win in November,” she said.
