The Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup opens with an unexpected competitor.
Team USA has arrived at the Caribbean stage of the tournament as a surprise package and is determined not to bow out anytime soon.
“We're not going down without a fight,” coach Stuart Law told Al Jazeera after the United States' qualification for the Super Eight was confirmed.
The diverse American team includes two players of Caribbean origin who have played the sport in the region in the past, and one of them, Aaron Jones, believes his team will get good support from the West Indies public.
“Steven and I [Taylor] We have a lot of support in the Caribbean, so we will definitely have some support tomorrow,” Jones said Tuesday in his pre-match press conference.
The United States vice-captain, who scored the most sixes (13) in the group stage, said his team is excited to rub shoulders with the biggest teams in the world.
“The guys are excited to play against the best teams in the world. We wanted to do that. We've been talking about it for the last few years. And here we are now, so we are just going to enjoy our cricket and, like I said, we will play fearless cricket all the time.”
South Africa will be wary of the threat posed by the Americans, and captain Aiden Markram agreed his team will have to “play their best game” against the co-hosts in Wednesday's match.
“Many people will say [the USA are one of the] smaller nations, but they are not, and they have shown that,” Markram told reporters.
With the Super Eight games spread across multiple venues in the Caribbean, Markram said it will be vital for his team to gather as much information as possible about each field.

tone condition
The Antigua pitch has produced a mix of high and low scoring matches, but conditions remain favorable for batting and the pitch is very different to New York, where all teams struggled to score.
There will still be some help for bowlers, especially wrist spinners and those with high accuracy and control.
Weather forecast
The forecast for this week is cloudy and humid with negligible chances of rain.
Head to head
The teams have never faced each other in any game format.
forms guide
While the United States lost its final full match of the tournament against India, they would have gained confidence from their competitive display against the South Asian powerhouse. The debutants showed a lot of courage and control in their historic super victory against Pakistan.
South Africa is one of four unbeaten teams in the tournament so far, but they almost suffered a major upset against Nepal in their final group match.
